Our AI-driven future means that the next generation’s humanists will be viewed as dangerously reactionary. And hopelessly backward. To be a luddite now, I argue, is to practice an ultra-orthodox form of humanism. To want to create for yourself your own life (or God help you your own art): how soon it will be equated to choosing to be powered by a horse when there are automobiles available! Which is to say, progress is not inherently good or bad, it is a cold logic leading us nowhere but further.
