Today, what is called progress aims backward, either due to a misunderstanding of the past or a failure to study it from a broad perspective. Meanwhile, what parades as conservative tends to advocate for the same backward (that is, progressive) direction, only slower, because it misunderstands the present. A third way is needed, but is this third way only accessible by hitching a ride with ever-advancing technology, which is already headed in that direction?
Oh, Lord, grant us a better future—freshly reworked, yet informed by the hard-won wisdom of experience and history. A future that moves forward but remains walkable from where we stand today!
