Days of Service
The day is here and you ask: which one?
And if you answer
a day ready to be
commanded, ready to hear and respond
to what you preach, then take heart!
For you are still (if only somewhat) young.
Freedom is this: to greet a day
still willing to serve you
in some capacity, and how important
it is to learn or remember
what orders to give
and how to give them!
Because someday you will meet
days like wild horses
that do not consider
much less obey you
and wisdom then
will be to appreciate their
often distant and always
ungovernable beauty
because someday there will
be no meetings at all
and what is last
lasts.
So, yes, any meeting is good
but blessed are those days that come to serve!
If such days still greet you
consider how fortunate you are,
and, if your luck and your will
remain strong and in tandem,
may you yet even find
a battalion of them!
