Sentimentality can serve as a form of resistance against the creeping totalitarian tendencies of our materialist state. May its activation begin to reveal the once-maintained trail to the original autonomy of spirit!
The best hauntings are spontaneous remembrances! Sometimes, it is advisable to travel to familiar spots from long ago to egg these spirits on. And sometimes, simply beholding an object symbolic of a past time or place is the most efficient form of travel. No wings or wheels needed! Poke the beehive within you, and be swarmed with meaningful yesterdays.
The beginning of transcendence is feeling what you cannot see or touch. Being utterly caught in the thrall of sentimental moments is confirmation that we still contain within us the capacity to worship! Here is proof that we have not yet been reduced to our material fraction. May your worldview be an oil painting touched up upon and touched up upon, drying slower than you are evolving! Everything past is felt again! May we only frame works in progress in our best galleries!
Sacred objects spurring sentimentality are like ziploc bags for our spirit, retaining the freshness of our original reactions and perceptions! Meanings beyond consumption!
The agents of consumer society fear the past above all else, because the past has been fulfilled and, as such, is immune to marketing campaigns! Ah! But the state just wants today and tomorrow’s tax dollars and votes, the corporations just want your business going forward. It is in their interest that every part of you, inside and out, be determinable and quantifiable. Yes, they want to air us out, vacuum seal our organs and everything else within us so that our next moves, tomorrow’s desires, everything we want and love can be precisely calculated with the right math equation. May the numbers of your soul never be translatable to today’s vultures of data! Sentimentality throws off every equation, what algorithm could ever determine the absurd worth I place on the lawn sprinklers of my youth? (For those interested, 1980s era Toro brand sprinklers, and I will pay handsomely for them.)
Sentimentality: when there is no outward rhyme or reason for it, the rhyme is within you, and you can feel the most beautiful songs of praise. Do not grow cold to the coals that once warmed you. Everything possesses two fires, outward and inward ones. When your physical body can longer be warmed by something, it is still worth checking if your mind can. If so, preserve the memory and what inspired it!
Sometimes the fire passes from inner essence to inner essence, and a secret passage of warmth still exists, and the drowned flames only appear so! Yes, this is the transmission of sentimentality!
I will always return to the past, but now without regrets, without trying to revive it, but worshiping as some eastern cultures do their ancestors. And sentimentality is a kind of worship! Not a resurrection but realization, not raising the dead, but keeping my spirits lifted. Living to create a wind within for future sails of thought!
Oh sentimentality, the proof of our continued humanity! How blessed we are that something unquantifiable still burns within us! And that we still have sacred logs to add to it to stoke its flames!
