When your enemies are radicals who do not want to admit that they are actually radicals their unspoken goal (if they cannot convert you) is to turn you into an opposing radical. There is a psychological reason for this: If they can better fit you into their mold for what constitutes absolute evil, they will be more assured in themselves, their mission and the unassailable righteousness of their worldview. Though it is the natural response, there is nothing more futile than opposing radicalism with radicalism—all it does is draw and quarter the world as we all split further apart from one another.
Do not play the radical game and do not use their terminology (even against them), their game is not yours—the rules of Monopoly mean nothing to a chess player. Instead, put your cheek on a swivel and start it a-turning, trust me, this ancient wisdom is wisdom for a reason. Do not scream at screaming children and do not talk politics with true believers. If you only engage on a middle ground you will force your opponents (ideological or otherwise) to meet you there. And the middle ground is ground zero for understanding.
Excellent advice.
