You’re being cooked, and I don’t think you realize it.
A narrative is being prepared, and you’re simmering in it.
“Swimming,” you say, “merely swimming. I maneuver deftly within these waters, sure as a fish itself.” As proof, you offer me the sight of your water-wrinkled fingers.
But this is just more evidence of my point. When was the last time you got out? Reacclimated to the temperature on long-forgotten land?
Have you ever even considered an alternate river source?
“They will tell me when to do so. The wise keepers of the tides. Rightly celebrated still, as they so long have been.”
Yes, so finely conditioned to the moment, you have no trouble keeping up with the liquid times. Immersed in it, you somehow swim with it too.
May I make a suggestion, though? Get out; dry off. Turn off your TV for a year. Unsubscribe from any organization whose current output is judged more by past legacy.
Many once-great organizations have been skinned, gutted of everything but their reputation, which bleeds out more slowly. Yes, many builders have been replaced by agents of entropy.
Begin to read the ingredients on all you consume, not just food. What artificial sponsors are mixed up in your day-to-day understanding of the world?
Do this long enough, and you’ll be ready. Go back now; dip your toes in that water you left, and tell me what you feel.
“Burning, burning, burning. It’s as if the future is coming…to a boil!” In great pain, you remove your foot immediately.
As you do this, you look out and notice many still swimming. You cry out with a warning! Yet those immersed in what you cannot return to ignore your words and judge you for your sensitivity.
How strange, you think, noticing none of your former brethren are even looking for possible land. They do not seem to care one way or another if it exists at all! And yet, my gosh, you think—it can’t be too much longer until they are entirely roasted through!
From one escaped frog to another, let me tell you: beware full and consistent immersion in unreflected-upon waters! Especially now, when there is much steam on the horizon.
WOW! What a hard-hitting commentary on what I read as today's political situation. I appreciate the fact that the thoughts expressed here can be seen by the open-minded to apply without taking sides, and can reflect on the world situation as well as on our own country.
