What I would do to be able to relive some past days, past eras of my life! But not, please note, in the manner of one going back for seconds after a good meal. No, this desire comes not from a lack of satiation or a greed for more of a pleasing taste!
Nor is it driven by a wish to divert that decided path towards other, potentially better possibilities sidestepped along the way. I seek to be no lobbyist for all the opportunities I’ve missed. And how many of them there inevitably are in any life lived long enough, all clamoring for representation in the halls of memory! For, you see, every “yes” to one thing is a “no” to ten others. No, I am not in the hire of these “no’s” and may I never be!
Simply put, my going back would be for the sake of delivering one message: take better notes! Not to help see the unrealized through but to see the realized better. Take the time so fully in, that, if called upon to do so, you know you can provide an accurate composite sketch comprising both the external and internal.
Oh, all I want is to be a better witness of this one life, the past’s expert witness, calmly able to relate the events of long ago at today’s perpetually necessary trial. My words steady and believable because I no longer have any doubts as to what I harbor within myself, the images and sounds forever docked there. Back on the stand, I will know better than to express any regrets whatsoever because, being so sure of the truth of my recollections, I would not want to perjure myself!
Excellent perspective!
